Lightning Protection in Wichita Falls
Lightning rod installation, grounding, and surge protection for homes, ranches, churches, and businesses in Wichita Falls and the surrounding Red River country, including Burkburnett, Iowa Park, Electra, Holliday, and Archer City.
Red River storm country
Wichita Falls sits on open, rolling plains just south of the Red River, and storms that build over Southwest Oklahoma and the Texas Rolling Plains come straight through. Spring and early summer storms here often bring hail and damaging wind with the lightning, and a lot of local homes have been re-roofed more than once.
Hail can bend or knock loose air terminals, and roofers sometimes remove a system and never put it back. If your house had lightning rods before a new roof, it's worth checking. See lightning rod repair and lightning protection inspection.
Homes in town and on acreage
Older neighborhoods near Midwestern State and downtown have brick homes with steep roofs and chimneys, while newer subdivisions spread south and west toward Lake Wichita and out along the highways. Many families connected to Sheppard Air Force Base own homes in town, Burkburnett, or Iowa Park.
Outside town, homes on acreage toward Holliday and Archer City often have a metal shop or barn nearby. We plan the house and outbuildings together. See residential lightning protection.
Ranches and oil leases
Wichita, Archer, and Clay counties are cattle country with oil wells scattered through the pastures, a combination that has defined the area for generations. Barns, hay storage, pens, pump houses, and lease shops stand alone on open ground.
We protect ranch buildings and add surge protection for well pumps and gate openers, and on lease sites we work within the operator's safety program. See farm and ranch lightning protection and oilfield lightning protection.
How we design a system
Linzy Lightning Protection is family-owned, and Joe is the third generation of his family in the lightning rod trade. Each system is designed with the goal of following NFPA 780: air terminals on the high points, conductors with smooth bends and no gaps, bonding for metal vents, gutters, and antennas, and grounding designed for the site. The red clay and sandy loam around Wichita Falls drain and dry very differently, so grounding isn't one-size-fits-all.
Wichita Falls is on the way between our North Texas work and Southwest Oklahoma, so it's an easy place to add to a trip. Send photos and an address, and Joe will call you before giving an estimate.
