Serving San Antonio & nearby areas

Homes across San Antonio and Bexar County

San Antonio covers a lot of ground, from older neighborhoods near downtown to newer subdivisions out past Loop 1604. Two-story homes, homes up on the hills of the north side, and homes with big live oaks close by tend to be more exposed. See residential lightning protection and tree lightning protection.

We also work in the towns around the city, including New Braunfels, Schertz, Seguin, Boerne, and Helotes. If you're not sure we come out your way, just call and ask.

Hill Country ranches and barns

North and west of town, out toward Boerne and Helotes, the land rises into the Hill Country. Ranch homes, barns, horse stalls, and shops often sit on hilltops or open pasture, where they can be the tallest thing around. Well pumps and gate openers are part of the picture too. Our farm and ranch lightning protection page covers barns, livestock buildings, and well pumps.

Churches and commercial buildings

San Antonio has churches of every size, from older stone churches to large newer sanctuaries with tall steeples and gyms. We plan each system with care for how the building looks. See church and steeple lightning protection.

Offices, shops, warehouses, and retail buildings need a layout planned around flat roofs, parapets, and rooftop equipment. See commercial lightning protection.

A west-side strike this fall

On October 1, 2026, lightning hit a home on San Antonio's west side during heavy rain. The homeowner told KENS 5 that sparks shot out of the wall outlets, shingles and roof debris ended up in the yard, and the strike blew the covers off the power feed to the air conditioner.

A strike can do damage on the roof, and it can come into the house through the wiring. That's why we talk with folks about both.

Surge protection and lightning rods do different jobs

A lightning rod system, with air terminals on the roof, conductors, and grounding, gives a direct strike a safe path over and around the house and into the ground, instead of letting it find its own way through the roof, attic, and framing.

Surge protection works on the electrical side. Surge protective devices at your panel help limit surges that come in on power, cable, and phone lines, including surges from strikes nearby that never touch the house. One doesn't replace the other: rods won't stop a surge riding in on the power lines, and a surge protector won't keep a direct strike off your roof. For most homes, the two work best together.

Weather and ground in San Antonio

San Antonio sits right on the Balcones Escarpment. North and west of town, thin soil over limestone can stop a ground rod short, so we may use extra electrodes or a ground ring. South and east, the ground turns to deeper clay that swells and shrinks with wet and dry spells. We design grounding for your property.

Storms can roll through in spring and again in the fall, often with heavy rain. It's best to have protection in place before the next round.

FAQ

San Antonio lightning protection FAQ

Do you serve New Braunfels, Boerne, Schertz, Seguin, and Helotes?

Yes. We serve San Antonio and nearby communities across Bexar County and the Hill Country, including New Braunfels, Boerne, Schertz, Seguin, and Helotes. Call or send a note with your address and we'll talk through scheduling.

If I have surge protection, do I still need lightning rods?

They do different jobs. Surge protection helps protect your wiring and electronics from surges coming in on utility lines. A lightning rod system gives a direct strike a safe path to ground so it doesn't go through the roof and framing. Many homes are best covered with both. See surge protection.

Can you protect barns and ranch homes in the Hill Country?

Yes. We protect barns, shops, livestock buildings, and ranch homes, and we can add surge protection for well pumps and gate openers.

Can you protect a church or commercial building in San Antonio?

Yes. We plan air terminals, conductors, and grounding around steeples, flat roofs, and rooftop equipment, and we work out timing with your staff.
